Handy list of Tor resources:

Silk Road Forum – silkroad5v7dywlc.onion

Sheep Marketplace – sheep5u64fi457aw.onion

Black Market Reloaded – 5onwnspjvuk7cwvk.onion

Hidden Wiki – 7jguhsfwruviatqe.onion

TorDIR – dppmfxaacucguzpc.onion

Core.Onion – eqt5g4fuenphqinx.onion

Hash Party – 3terbsb5mmmdyhse.onion

TorLinks – torlinkbgs6aabns.onion

HackBB – clsvtzwzdgzkjda7.onion

If you use Tor to browse remember to disable Javascript. The FBI has used a Javascript exploit to target visitors to sites hosted by Freedom Hosting – about half of Tor onion sites are/were on Freedom Hosting (Tormail included): http://kpvz7ki2v5agwt35.onion.to/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Last time I used TOR was back on dsl… slower than snot.  Will have to try it again to see if the speed increases on cable, or newer versions.  Spending an eternity waiting for pages to load, only to realise your on the wrong page suxx.

The tor network is much larger than it used to be and faster. Much less lag now.

The slow speed is due to the way in which TOR operates. Your browser requests are constantly bounced around TOR node after TOR node, and these nodes can be anywhere in the world. Instead of browsing the web normally, where your browser requests information and communicates back and forth with the target server directly (which is generally pretty fast), when you use TOR it can take much longer, even on a very fast broadband connection, because in order to send requests and get the information back it’s all sent here, then there, then over there, then over here again, then there, then over there, then way out there, then there, and maybe there, and THEN the results are fed back to you. This is how TOR makes browsing anonymous — it bounces even the simplest requests for information/to send information all over the place so nothing can be traced back to you. In short, it isn’t your connection.

Understand?

I am always up for chatting online with some new and interesting people. I don’t really PM too many people here much. If you see this and you’re interested in chatting or are bored and such. Please hit me up. I LOVE conversation.

Yes, the slow speed is understandable… but at the same time there comes a point where trudging through molasses isn’t web browsing.  There were literally times I was waiting half an hour to switch pages, but then again this was 4-5 years ago.  Just downloaded the new version, gonna give it a bit of a try and see if things are faster or not.  Let you know later.

If tor lags too much for you, try i2p instead. i2p can be almost as fast as a VPN if 1) you leave your client connected and 2) you share about 5 GB bandwidth daily.

If you are already paying for a fast internet connection you don’t need to also pay for a VPN for anonymity with speed and i2p also works fine for torrents.
