I’m gonna rant a minute about something on my mind. This past week my son”s gf and family lost their home and all their possessions due to an electrical fire. Thankfully no one was home except the dog (RIP Scooby). We don’t have a lot of room but found some space for her and the two grandminions 🙂 We put the word out to our family members, the local fire department is having a fundraiser dinner next week, and there is a gofundme page that has garnered 160 dollars over the past 5 days. My daughter put up a request for clothing donations on her FB page; via one of her friends from high school, she brought bags of clothes and toys sufficient to fill the majority of the bedroom that is used as a playroom/family room for the kids. I donated a tv, dvd player, and some of my clothes. My wife donated the tablet I bought her at Christmas, and she is making quilts and blankets with her sewing machine because we have material and a sewing machine but can’t buy new stuff.
My daughter’s classmate wishes to be anonymous; several bags of designer clothes (some still with tags), and lots of soaps, cleaning supplies, etc -and I don’t even know who to thank.
The kicker is this: We have extended family -family members that like to project the image of "family first". But now it seems as if that only means they want you to show up at family gatherings or to party with them. We put the word out to family and what we got is crickets chirping. That’s probably an exaggeration at that, but I was expecting some words of concern or well-wishing if not offers to help out.
Blood thicker than water? Apparently not in this case. There are people on this forum I consider more akin to family than these pos blood relatives that act oblivious when calamity strikes. I am thankful for the kindness of strangers that I have never met and will never know. And since I cannot say thank you to them, I am dropping this rant right here. Know who your real friends and family are. I will never turn my back on good people when I have the means to do what is right.
