I know I promised another story, so here it is. This story starts in 1997.

When my father-in-law was alive, he would throw a huge party every summer. Giant tent, a DJ, and a couple porta pottys every year. Guy had a lot of connections, many of them at odds with the law. You really never knew who you were going to end up partying with. At one of these summer gatherings, this dude claimed to have killed someone and gotten away with it. Seemed like the kind of person that liked to get drunk and get into fights. Ran into this guy at a few gatherings afterwords, but never heard anything else until earlier this year.

My bro calls early in Feb of this year and asks my wife, "hey do you remember Rick S? Well, he just got charged with murder along with his brother."

I did a little research; over the past 25 years, this guy made a name for himself in stone masonry and construction and now was pretty well-off. There was a post from one of his family members on FB with a gofundme attached, which was later taken down because it is gofundme policy not to solicit funds for defense of a homicide.

Anyways, to wrap up, the thing that really creeped me out was the reason this case was not closed much sooner: the victim was found in a cornfield with his head and hands cut off. I'm a little more careful who I hang out with these days.

Here's the story from one newspaper:  https://www.lenconnect.com/story/news/crime/2023/01/25/arrests-1997-cold-case-murder-body-found-blissfield/69838493007/
