This one lecture changed my entire worldview more radically than any other book, document, or other combination of words in the history of me.
I tried to get people to read it years ago, I was so enthused I printed it out and shoved it in everyone’s faces.
Now Alan Watts is all over youtube, which is awesome, but this changed me for the better (some would say worse, but screw them lol) and opened my mind.. started to shift my thinking outside my little boxes dramatically. I found it in probably 2003 or so, and it was so profound.
I now try to get people to read it once more.. Or to listen to it, as there’s versions of it online now where you can listen to Alan Watts’ smooth as butter voice. I like to listen to him when I go to sleep.
Brilliant man.

I read this as a young man confused about the world not matching up to the religion I was brought up in, and that’s about all I knew aside from what I was taught in school.. I didn’t know what to think, and it was depressing. This truly excited me. I wish people would read or listen to it.
It’s the kind of feeling at the time, I had truly wished I had ever received from a church service.
The video above is just one part though of his lectures on the nature of consciousness.
I’d suggest his books as well for anyone who is into thinking about the reality we all find ourselves a part of, or disconnected from and at odds with, or however you look at the world.
He has a book called The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are, it’s excellent. Also I’ve read The Way of Zen, and This is It, a book of lectures, one of which is on the psychedelic experience.

This is a great video and profound thinking from Watts, edited together by Omega Point, which is a sweet youtube channel full of Watts and Terence Mckenna among other big thinkers.
