SARASOTA, FLA. (FOX 13) – Officers with the Sarasota Police Department Narcotics Unit pulled box after box filled with synthetic drugs from Snacks Grocery off Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Sarasota.

"The Mike and Ike box has ‘spice’ in it," said an undercover officer, referring to the drug’s street name.

The video provided by the Sarasota Police Department showed what they found when they raided the grocery store.

"I asked the fellow personally, you’ve got to stop selling this mess up here," said landlord Lance Shabazz.

Shabazz said it was not a secret that his renter, 31-year-old Rami Ahmed of Brandon, was selling the designer drugs.

"It looked like a food line how they line up and wait for him to open up," Shabazz said.

He says he saw the effects first hand.

"I had one fellow who was stretched out on a bench. He told me he had just smoked K2," Shabazz said.

Officers saw it also.

"Another fellow from this neighborhood, he smoked the K2 and he went and kicked the police mirrors off the truck," Shabazz said.

Earlier this year, Sarasota banned the synthetic drugs. Officers gave the store owners warnings to get them off their shelves.

"This is the stuff that you read about. People being zombies and biting people’s faces off. It really has a negative effect on people," said Lt. Pat Ledwith.

Lieutenant Ledwith said Rabboh kept selling, but not as openly.

"They would have to know that he was selling them, and they would have to ask for it specifically or be introduced by somebody that knew he was selling them," he said.

Investigators seized 395 packages of designer drugs of numerous varieties, $937 dollars, a gun and numerous items of drug paraphernalia hidden behind the counter of the store.

"It is illegal, and if you are selling it, we are going to find out and take legal action against you," Lt. Ledwith said.

Sarasota Police are continuing their investigation. Additional charges are expected.
