TAMPA —
The popular club drug Molly is making its way to the Bay area, and health professionals say pop culture is partially to blame.

If you type in your favorite artist on YouTube, there’s a chance you’ll hear them singing about Molly. And No Molly isn’t a person. It’s drug that’s becoming more and more popular with young people.

“Molly stands for ‘molecule.’ The kids that use it think they’re getting a pure form of ecstasy,” Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance board member Ellen Snelling said.

Snelling knows all about the old form of the drug. Her daughter had to be hospitalized after taking it.

“I didn’t know if we were going to make it out of there. I didn’t know how bad it was,” she said.

That scare made Snelling join the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance. The organization helps educate parents and children on the risks of drug use. Especially new ones hitting the streets such as Molly.

Every other year, the Hillsborough County anti-drug alliance sends out a survey middle and high schools to find out which drugs are most popular. Molly will be added to that list this year.

Snelling said the Molly being sold on the streets actually isn’t a pure form of MDMA. Some of it is mixed with other dangerous drugs such as bath salts.

“We’ve seen more than 200 cases in hospital visits show up around Florida,” Florida Poison Control specialist Dr. Tamas Peredy said.

He said many of those cases are in the Bay area.

“It runs the gamut from acute stroke to having a seizure to having an electrolyte imbalance, and you can even experience a heart attack,” Peredy said.

Hillsborough County Deputies said they’re seeing homemade Molly labs popping up more and more. The most recent one was busted this week in Plant City. And experts said it’s dangerous for the people using the drugs and for the people who live nearby.

“You’re risking yourself and your environment to explosion to fire,” Peredy said.

Peredy said the Florida Poison control has more information about Molly. And so does the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug alliance.

Has anyone else notic3d after a molly binge,  that ur  mind is distant n far away feeling for a couple months?  As the same is true for crystal but only for like a week?

I saw this happen bad to a best buddy, but he would take a lot of pills in a night and this was 99 when you get real x pills. I saw him take 8 one time partying and these pills most people were only taking 2-3 in that same amount of time and getting real fucked up. I was worried for about 2 weeks when he quit cause those 8 were the last time I think if not he only did it maybe once more. He would be talking to you just stop get this blank look on his face and ask you what like you were talking. He didn’t do it with everything he said but when it did happen it scared the shit outta me.

DISCLAIMER: pointless EG rambling follows.  Proceed at own risk.

Many of the things we experience do make physiological changes to us, short to long term, or even permanent in duration.

Depending on what you’re actually getting with any X-type, your whole serological system just kinda jizzes and it takes a while to build back up to normal operational levels.  Could be a part of what you’re talking about, TB?

The obvious chasing in the general instance is for the short term effects.  Doesn’t matter whether its molly, meth, -yes- blends, whatever tweaks ya.

Can anyone say they ever truly looked at things the same way after experiencing just about any random psychedelics?  Gotta be some permanent changes there somewhere.

For those on SSRI’s or other ‘psyche’ meds: can you see the long term changes in your personality, mood, etc.?  Or wonder how you’d be without them?  :hammertime:

Smoke blends for a couple of years *solid*, then get a bunk bag on ‘poor week’ and get a good taste of blend DT’s.  Your body will let you know something has changed.  Horribly, sadly, pitifully changed.  -Yes, that’s right – I can see some of you out there nodding "uh-huh, been there".  :-X

The above references are just examples of substance-related carryover and body attunement.

The concept is as archaic and simple as getting a random virus.  Your physicality is consumed in reaction to the invaders hijacking your cellery, the weak and old may be more likely to die than fight it off if it’s particularly aggressive.

There’s a theory that a large part of our "junk" DNA may be remnants of a flu bug that went all symbiotic on our ancestors.  Others that these are ‘stumps’ of previous mutations that we’ve neglected to near-inactivity in our current state of devolution.  Could be just waitin’ there for some X-men type activation.  Unfortunately, it would only be regressive things we could get back.  Say, one might activate the (scales/feathers/body hair) switch for some interesting results.  One could bring out their inner Neandertal or Denisovan, perhaps.  Might be nice to have some of that extra cranial capacity back – if one could reactivate the gene that gave the Neandertals their big occipital lobe brain, while keeping our big ‘full frontal’ brain, there’d be some smart mofos.

Individuals lucky enough to survive any severe viral or bacterial infection that puts a human body through the wringer fighting it off, it’s not going to be a clean win.  In many instances, virii become dormant and reappear later (chicken pox ~ shingles, etc.).  They’re still there in your body the whole time, from childhood to grave.  >:(

Think about that.  Every cold, every flu, every case of the taco-bell inspired screamin’ shits you’ve ever had is more than likely a part of your biota even now. 😮

Yes, the average human body, cell for cell, is 90% NOT YOU.  Luckily, we’ve got them far outmassed, so we remain mobile and "ourselves" for so long as our immune systems can maintain stasis in overpowering the stragglers.

If that human control were to be subverted, by say, a mutated toxoplasmosa-type critter, wiping out that human bit, leaving the body in full control from a parasite, would the result not make the beginnings of a great zombie plague? ;D

Think about someone, say a family member, that you know very well, and consider their behaviors before and after getting over something severe.  No illness leaves a person unchanged.  :-

Note that your heavy-dutier type of antibiotics come with the little disclaimer in the pamphlet: side effects may include death.  Once they get so strong, they’re like a bio-nuke that may take out a vital organ as equally likely as the randomly-placed infection you’re trying to kill.  As well as a large number of beneficial or essential biota you were previously more or less cool with having along for the ride.

I think some of these little guys are necessary; antibiotics are way overused.  Just consuming these food-like products we do every day loads us up with all sorts of goodies we never even know about.

And don’t forget the horomones.  MMMM horomones!  😛

Talk about the next generation of human evolution, we’re here mofos.  No longer content with getting wiped out by random primordial ooze, humans are now more than ever being affected by arguable mutagens from every angle, right on up in scale to modern societal communication levels.  A good FB meme or board post will affect the mind of those who read it by subconscious bias instantaneously via PC, Laptop, Tablet, Mobile, Wristwatch and or hybrids thereof.  Maybe just a little, but if one reads and processes anything it affects them in a small way.

And it’s like crack to us.  Social media is letting everyone reach out to everyone of like mind as never before, worldwide…and we can’t get enough of the shit.  Instead of a tower of Babel, we just post prayers on FB now (although I never see anybody with God "friended", curiously?), so he’ll be sure to get ’em.  Reality shows of reality shows pass for entertainment while hollywood butchers classic after classic with aborted remake attempts.

I have no idea where I’m going with any of this so I’ll just STFU now and go eat my pop tart.  :broccoli
