Hot Buttered Bhang

A recipe for an alcoholic cannabis drink

Hot Buttered Bhang
In a saucepan, melt half a cube (1/8 pound) of butter or ghee. Crumble a good handful of marijuana tops or leaves (1/3 – 1/2 ounce [!$WoW$!]). Stir the grass into the molten butter. Continue stirring over medium heat for one minute. While it is hot or sizzling, add 8 ounces of vodka. Be cautious that the hot butter does not make the mixture spatter. It is best to pour in the vodka swiftly. Continue to boil for 30 seconds or more, stirring all the while. A pinch or two of powdered cardamom seed may be added during the boiling. . . .

After boiling as much as desired, strain the liquids. Press the mash in a strainer with the back of a spoon to remove all the juices. Discard mash or boil it again in fresh vodka to salvage more materials. Sweeten to taste with honey if wanted. Pour the liquid into 4-ounce wine glasses. . . . Serves two. [!!]

This recipe is not only an efficient method of extracting the active principles from marijuana, and an excellent medium for assimilation (alcohol, butter and honey), but it also has a delicious and satisfying flavor. It is reminiscent of hot chocolate, but is much more pleasant to drink. It is one of the most swiftly absorbed cannabis concoctions. The effects of the grass may be felt in less than fifteen minutes. Cheers!"

A couple things with this.  First off, that is a lot of weed for 2 doses!  If you have wild MJ homegrown, not an inproved strain of hydro kush, then go ahead and use this much but otherwise no one would you want to, or need to, use that much especially for two servings.  Next, the good stuff will dissolve in butter or alcohol–you don’t need both.  Also, but adding the alcohol to sizzling butter will make the alcohol immediately boil away; vodka is 50% water and has no particular flavor so you might as well add water if you want to hear a sizzle because vodka serves no purpose in that step other than to make a big flame over your cooking pot.  Last, if you use butter to extract the goodies fromn the weed, the problem is a lot of butter will remain in the weed and it is going to be tough to get all of the butter/extract out of the weed without a ptress or something.  It would make more sense to do an extraction with the vodka/alcohol, starin out a portion and add some browned butter, also known as beurre noisette, to the vodka extraction for taste.  That way you are not wasting MJ or vodka, and the dose can be more human sized.

I know it is not the traditional way it is done in India, but can you imagine doing a 1/6-1/4 ounce of today’s medical or connoisseur grade weed in a shot??  OMFG even a hardhead would be knocked on his or her ass!  Of course if that is what you want, party on in your MJ coma!

As sal Ngls I must disagree, the alcohol is having an effect as it de-glazes the pan (cleans it)
of thc. Nowhere is it said the alcohol is to be lit on fire, which would indeed strip the alcohol
from this mixture, tho boiling off is a real possibility.

Deglazing implies sugar or a caramel–if you deglaze with wine or liquor you are using the water contained therin and flavoring with the liquor base.  Vodka has no flavor per se so it is sort of pointless to boil vodka–if you dont want a liquor flavor just use water.  You dont need the butter/ghee to extract either, but you can use it (or browned butter) as a flavor if you want.  As for the flame, if you deglaze a hot pan over a flame you are gonna get fire, especially with a high proof liquid like vodka. Don’t burn the kitchen down!

I just think you could improve on this a lot, and waste a lot less in the process.

Funny cause we used to use wine or other alcohol containing drinks to deglaze-remove the flavor (actives?)stuck to the pan while
cooking
