The Holy Mountain looks trippy!

Alexandro Jodorosky’s EL TOPO is pretty trippy too. I remember years ago I had to pay $20 for shitty  bootlegs of his films, due to Allen Klein holding the rights:

"Lennon, after seeing and being impressed with Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo, persuaded Klein to buy the rights and bankroll Jodorowsky’s next film, The Holy Mountain (1973). The Jodorowsky-Klein collaboration was an artistic success, but plans for a follow-up never materialized. Witnessing the commercial success of hard-core pornographic films, such as Deep Throat and The Devil In Miss Jones, which broke through to the mainstream, Klein saw similar potential in Pauline Réage’s bestseller The Story Of O, but Jodorowsky walked out on the deal.

In retribution, Klein withdrew every print of El Topo and The Holy Mountain from US distribution, and turned down all subsequent requests by film festivals.
Both films were withdrawn from circulation in the US for more than 30 years, making sporadic, bootleg appearances on video – and being usually only of poor quality. Jodorowsky publicly endorsed these pirated copies of his work, since he was unable to show or distribute the films legally (within the US).

Both El Topo and The Holy Mountain were screened as part of a retrospective of Jodorowsky’s work at the 7th annual Chicago Underground Film Festival in 2000. The dispute over the films ended in 2004, when Jody Klein contacted Jodorowsky and offered a reconciliation. In response to the films’ re-appearance, both the Cannes and London Film Festivals have organised gala screenings. Both films are also available on DVD and Blu-ray."

That was a trip.  I’ve seen this trailer or parts of it way back when I borrowed a vhs dub of some remote trippy flick. I borrowed clockwork Orange and he lent me this crazy tape about a bartender and there was a curb stomping (not American history X) then like an HOUR of obscure previews.

Both of those are amazing. It took me longer to accept kung pow, but I’ve more than made up for it in repeated viewings.
Kung fu hustle is simply a masterpiece. They got their shit down!

Kung Pow is a must own Dvd for the audio tracks.  The what they’re really saying track is hysterical because it shows just how lttle money he had to make it.  The Mufasa scene has him saying, "All I can do is record DV in my back yard"… lol… and theres a running joke about pie.  The storybook track has an english narrator.

You’d like Light Years, aka Gandahar pguy14… similar style, more coherent story.  Oh, and titties… lots and lots of titties.  Mutants, bio engineering, time travel, robots… it’s well worth tracking down a copy… but here’s one of the more interesting bits involving The Deformed.

Now for the stoner film you didn’t even know was a stoner film… and no, I don’t mean this one…

Nah… that’s too easy.  This one you have to delve into the original script and novelization to realise what got left on the cutting room floor.  Mostly character development… because hey, horror movies are about nameless characters with no personalities dying in creative ways, right?  Yeah… they fucked up Virus big time.  Ritchie, the paramilitary guy who goes nuts and crazy MacGuyver in the film… is a big time stoner.  Booted out of weapon research because of the ganja.  Hell, they even toke up multiple times on the fucking boat in the scenes they cut, and the captain makes MANY comments about "the fucking Stoner".  Of course some nutfag decided that having a crazy black stoner in the film might be bad… especially since it’s fairly obvious he runs off an leaves his friends to smoke his entire fucking stash and rig together a paranoid pipe dream of pure brilliance.  Of course the fact that the people who get turned into parts still think and feel tested bad as well, so cut that.  So what’s left?  The shadows of what could have been a great film… which is now pretty much a special effects piece.  Still fun to watch, but MAN… had they just left in the fucking stoner stuff and character development.  There was also a planned scene where Hino not only beats the shit out of one of the mechanoids with his magic axe (another bit of side story tossed in the trash) but fucking demolishes it… in hand to hand combat… before getting washed over the side.  Too expensive a shot… so let’s cut all that out and have an experienced sailor lose his grip and get washed away while Jaime Lee Curtis somehow manages to make it in the same situation.  Still, the bones of what they intended are there… if you keep your eyes open.

So yeah… Virus.  Universal’s major fuck up of a stoner flick.

Oh… oh god… a guy showed me a copy of this at a con years ago… this is the weirdest fucking shit you will ever witness.  Seriously… I’m warning you… you have to sign a fucking waiver to watch this shit.  Mysterions from the black beyond will land in your fucking yard, present you with a pen and legal document… then blank your mind of the entire procedure.  Reality kind of breaks… and twists and unwinds… it’s both terrible and awesome at the same time… and random and strange and brilliant in a way that I don’t think was meant for human consumption.  Still, we enjoy that sort of thing… yes?  ^_^

Behold the awe and mystery that is Time Masters.  A 1982 enigma wrapped in a taco wrapped in a platypus.
