More news from Ohio. Previous wording of the initiative rendered it ineligible to be put on the ballot, but it has been fixed.

ResponsibleOhio has been in an ongoing debate with the state of Ohio about the ballot language for Issue 3.

Earlier this week the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that some of the wording was misleading and would need to be reworded.

The court said four parts of the language, including where marijuana establishments are permitted, state license rules for growers and the rules for opening an additional growth facility, were either inaccurate or not included.

Friday, the Ohio Ballot Board in conjunction with the Secretary of State officially changed that wording. It’s a move ResponsibleOhio Executive Director Ian James says is a victory for Ohio voters.

“We were compelled by conscience as well as the law to ensure that the voters had the best possible, fair and accurate language to vote on. And today the ballot board got it. Having has a court order compelling them to do so, they got it and they provided the fair language,” he said. “It looks now that the voters are going to have more accurate language and that’s important for folks to have so they can vote on this appropriately.”

Now that the language has been changed, Secretary of State Husted says that county boards of election across the state can make final preparations for this fall’s election.
