It predated google and it was amazing for a long time. It was a Digital product, then got sold, and sold again, finally purchaed by yahoo as part of another company. Yahoo announced it a couple days ago.
Altavista indexed millions of sites when other engines were only doing thousands. Of course the new engines index billions but Altavista was a big step forward at the time, and it didnt keep track of everyone using it.
Figures, I just bought 2 windows phones and an iPhone.
