I would not chance it unless you are very proficient with technology and not simply following a "how to get on SR" guide. If you actually understand the technology that is being used and how it works in tandem to allow SR to function then maybe you could take a chance.
I used to be involved on some private forums that did open trade of legal and illegal drugs. We used encryption, many of us used TOR to access the forums, but it wasn’t as secure as SR is now. You always had to worry about teenagers getting into the forums as sellers and buyers, shills hyping up some seller’s product so the seller could rob people blind with bunk product or never deliver on it and the shills get a percentage for helping, people trying to trade weapons for drugs, and many other problems.
All of these issues are still present on SR so be wary if you decide to use it. You also have to be extremely careful about where you have your packages shipped and know how to put as many points of departure between yourself and possible prosecution for receiving product via USPS, especially if it’s from across borders.
I wouldn’t chance it, personally. Considering that I used to risk having ounces of weed delivered to me in the mail, occasional 1/8ths of super amazing bud now and again, perhaps way, way too much LSD, and other compounds, and I never got in legal trouble, I folded my cards a long time ago and called it a day on that shit. Living with the paranoia, no matter how many safety measures you used, is NOT worth it in my humble opinion. I am fucking lucky is all I gotta say.
Just remember that there is a SR subreddit on Reddit.com and tons of high schoolers are now on the SR because Reddit is such a popular site. Ever since news articles about SR started getting linked everywhere online there have been more problems with bunk product, undelivered product, and little kids getting involved. I mean teens. OK I do mean little kids.
If you are ever gonna try SR, NEVER FE. EVER. That’s how all the scams work. Forgoing Escrow is the stupidest thing you can do with your bitcoins. I don’t care how much of a better offer the "super reliable seller" is promising you on your order if you Forgo Escrow, don’t do it! It’s a trap!

What turned me off to Silkroad was the need to use bitcoin, the software was so slow, the sites never responded, oh well.
