We’ve been doing animal rescues for most of my life, and our newest edition, an Eastern Box Turtle, doesn’t seem to want to leave. We’ve given her a home since our iguana passed and her cage was available.

The dog found her in a bush on a walk two weeks ago and bound out of the bush dropping her at my feet. If she hadn’t been in an area right next to the school where the commercial mowers have clearcut everything, I would leave her where we found her.
I’m amazed she survived, we almost always find turtles here sliced by mower blades or crushed by cars.

Currently house in a 5x3x3 enclosure, she gets outdoor temperatures, shade, fresh water to bathe, and we have the misters trigger twice a day for both the hanging plants and the turtle. I’ve tried to release her twice by leaving her in the yard, but she’s spoiled rotten and knows it, and being hand fed six worms a day….shit, would you leave? 😉

Anyone else into rescues or exotics?
