I still try to lead by example, ’cause I thought it might help change the world, but a lot of times the old adage of "no good deed goes unpunished" is true. Do what you can to help, but don’t ever, ever, expect anything good to come back to you. Just do good deeds and move on to do more.
I believe in giving help as you see the need. So many situations present themselves to us where we can help, yet so many wait for someone else to do the work needed. It’s easier and so fulfilling to genuinely help another human being, when a lot of our interactions are "virtual" and we can’t even see each other’s expressions. The better a life you live, the more peaceful you can be, so it seems. The feeling received from helping someone is a high in itself.

I think the good karma from doing good is all that holds
my days together sometimes.
Karma, while a lovely concept, unfortunately seems to be about the opposite of the way reality actually works in my experience.
