I learned about gravity a long, long time ago, but apparently the universe thought I needed a refresher!  Took a bad fall today (completely sober!) – skinned an elbow, stubbed all the toes on my right foot, narrowly missed smacking my teeth out, and bent both wrists back so far when I landed that the fingers touched my forearm.  An ER visit and 2 hours later, and the doctors are 99% sure I didn’t break my left wrist, just severely sprained it.  I have to wear an immobilizer for at least a week, and then we’ll see how it’s doing. :-/

On the bright side, I have been prescribed large amounts of Tramdol.  I am thoroughly blissed out on pain meds – they just make me itch like crazy, especially my face/eyebrows.  Weird, huh? LOL

Anyway, that was my night.  I had planned something more fun, but at least it’s (probably) not broken!  And strangely, my right wrist is totally fine.

Wow… that sucks!  Glad to hear the meds are working for you… maybe try some lotion for your face?  Hope you feel better soon.

Tramadol is only weak for poor metabolizers..

If it’s working for you, don’t let anyone tell you it’s not.  It’s M1 metabolite is much stronger..  Some people get relatively no effect, sorta like codeine being a prodrug for morphine..

Tramadol is a splendid drug, for me..  It’s not about getting addicted to pain meds either, it’s about having pain relief, don’t play devil’s advocate too much guys.

Hope you heal quickly and don’t develop a nasty habit.  Opiates are a slippery slope.

How did you fall?  Did you trip?  It’s good you didn’t break anything but what a drag you got hurt!

I imagine you will be sore today but hopefully you will recover quickly.  Next time you think about diving to the ground or hitting the dirt, slow down or land on something soft!

sorry for the fall. It hurts worse for a while before it even begins to get better. You would be better off taking Aleve with some milk or food. Get some direct absorption pain reliever like Aspercreme and try to sleep with your arms up over your head if possible. You really need some Hydro’s and of you have a GP, you should see him/her for a second look and and stronger pain meds. Trams are useless for 99% of people in your kind of acute pain. Hydros would get you ahead of the pain so Nsaids like Naproxen Sodium and Ibuprofen can take over.

Sorry to hear this Girl. Speedy recovery and hope the tramadol helps get through the pain period. I prescribe watching or rewatching 3 seasons of Game of Thrones. Time will fly!

Aww, thanks for all the support and advice, everyone!  I was just looking to blow off some steam and wasn’t expecting such a sweet response. 🙂

To answer a few questions:

1. I tripped and fell.  I accidentally kicked a stool, and I hopped to try and regain my footing, but instead of hitting solid ground, my foot landed on the already moving stool and my feet were swept out from underneath me.  I looked like I was trying to fly like Superman.  I smacked different areas of my body on different hard surfaces as I went down, and my hands caught the edge of the bullnosed countertop, but *not quite enough.*  My wrists tucked under the edge of the counter, the velocity kept me moving, and my fingers bent back to touch my forearms.  I threw my head back and only gently clipped my chin on the counter – I was VERY lucky I didn’t hit the teeth.  I cringe just thinking about it!

2. I can’t have codeine. 🙁  I can’t have Loritab.  I’m also allergic to several antibiotics, and some anesthesia gives me seizures.  There’s lots of meds I can’t take.  (I also can’t have MJ, but I’m not sure if it’s all related or not.)  I promise you though, the Tramadol works extremely well for me!  I’ve had a few surgeries (tonsillectomy at 21, knee repair, wisdom teeth) where I had strong pain killers – and I’ve always been terrified of getting addicted to pain meds.  I usually only take 1/2 a pill, instead of the 2 pills they recommend, just to take the edge off and make it tolerable.  I never end up using all of the pain meds, which is a good thing, because I am always hurting myself and need them later!

3.  If my wrist is still hurting after a week, I am going to see an orthopedic specialist, and will probably need an MRI.  We’ll see.  I’m trying to forcibly will my wrist to get better.

3.  I am icing every 4 hours, and when resting I am elevating my wrist.  I am also taking some anti-inflammatories.  Today I hurt worse than yesterday – I feel like I got hit by a freaking bus.  But I’m sure in a few days it will turn around and I’ll start the upswing.

I really am a klutz and constantly getting hurt – but usually not to this severity.  While we were waiting on the doctor, I asked my Hubby when this would all end.  He eloquently said "When you have a bad enough accident that it kills you."  LOL

I must metabolize tramadol great. It’s stronger than vicodin to me… Vicodin  is like a sugar pill to me. It sucks…

Forced progress!

I have pretty flexible tendons/ligaments; I can bend my thumbs down so far they will touch my wrists.  Well, my wrist has been hurting non stop since the accident, and it felt like it wanted to "pop."

I tried to bend that thumb down, and felt some tightness and resistance.  I kept pushing through it until my thumb touched my wrist, and BAM!  I heard and felt like 7-10 bones in my wrist jump/slide sideways – it sounded like a rapid fire back vertebrae adjustment.  It hurt in the moment, and ached for days after, but then the constant pain started to die down.  I’m now "popping" my thumb knuckle 6 times a day, when it feels it needs it, and I’ve heard a few more pops/shifts in the wrist region.  I think it’s starting to normalize! 😀
