Get happy, X-Philes. You’ll no longer have to subsist on SyFy re-runs for your X-Files fix.

Thirteen years after the iconic sci-fi show went off the air, The X-Files is returning to Fox for what the network calls "a six-episode event."

Creator Chris Carter will helm the episodes and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as FBI agents and seekers-of-the-weird Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," Carter said, according to Variety. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

Filming starts this summer, but Fox has not set an air date.

We have some hope that the return to television means this revival of The X-Files will be closer to the original phenomenon than the bizzarre-in-a-bad-way 2008 movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
