Not sure if we have any anime fans here, but I figured it was worth a shot. I have been a HUGE fan of Hayao Miyazaki since I saw Spirited Away when I worked at a camp one summer. Since that day I have seen every film he has touched. Hailed as Japan’s version of Walt Disney, this man has never created a bad film. I saw My Neighbor Totoro in my Japanese class in high school and remember being enthralled the entire time. It might be seen as a kid’s movie, but Miyazaki knows how to make every person feel like a kid again when you watch which his work. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, Pom Poko, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle the list goes on and on. I highly recommend everyone sit down and give his films a try. You will not be disappointed.

A shame he is retired…this time for good he says. His son Gorō isn’t half bad, but still has a ways to go to be anywhere close to his father. From Up on Poppy Hill was a pretty good film compared to his first, Tales from Earthsea which I felt was all visuals and no substance. I’m sure he will get better over time though. He has some pretty big shoes to fill.
