Their are suggestions that RI pulled a fast one over the summer and outlawed the primary actives in Kratom. Seems that concrete proof is elusive for that one so far. On the other hand, Illinois appears to be moving to make kratom illegal for all, and there is some proof there. Check out the AKA, BEA, etc. for more details on how to fight it.
