Dr. Schmidt is nearing the end of his South Pacific tour, and it is clear that all kava producing nations are firmly behind the quality standards he proposes for kava. These standards will become part of the Codex Alimentarius International Food Standards, and will apply to all members. A complete list of these members can be found here, but obviously Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and the USA are among them.

What this basically means is that two day kava is about to become illegal. Once the Codex standards are in place, the FDA should be changing their definition of Piper methysticum. Test methods will be revised, and two day kava will be excluded.

Personally I think this is a positive thing. Really doesn’t effect me as I only consume noble kava. If you like tudie kava you best start stocking up!
