I wanted to share some of my Kava preparation methods. Proper preparation is the most important factor in receiving the maximum in your kava experience. Feel free to share your methods or variations.
Instant and Micronized Kava
I purchased a $6 blender bottle at Walmart. I place 4 Tablespoons of my kava in the bottle with 1 bottle(16 oz) of fruit punch flavored water. With micro you need to use roughly 1/2 the amount of kava as you do with dry root which is usually 8 tablespoons for me. You can use water, fruit punch, milks, etc. Just remember milks and sugars can sit heavier on your stomach. Shake that bottle up like a MO FO and you’re ready. Provides 4 shells(16 oz).
Some prefer to strain the micro before drinking to achieve a cleaner grog. The Micro’s from GHK are high quality and do not require straining for me.
Dry Root Traditional Method
I place 16 oz. of hot tap water in a blender with 8 tablespoons of dry root kava and allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes. I then blend it for 1.5 minutes….in 30 sec intervals to prevent burning up the blender motor. Using my Fijian strainer I strain the grog in a large bowl. Then you simply squeeze and knead the kava, dipping it back in the liquid several times for 10 to 15 minutes. This is key in order to have a potent brew. I even knead and press it with my knuckles. A little work will give big results. I then pour the grog back in the rinsed out blender. Here I usually add about 1 cup of whole or almond/coconut milk , some sugar free chocolate or berry syrup, and/or powdered organic cocoa. I then place the blender pitcher in the freezer for about 30 minutes to chill and voila! Many times I prepare it in advance for it will keep a couple of days if refrigerated and sealed. Makes 6 shells.
I’ve been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could’ve been.
I’ve been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.
I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I’ve endured within
