I was very lucky today. My external Hdd started the death clunk that they get when they are ready to go. Somehow I decided to unplug it and try running it upside down after trying to turn it on and off 5-10 times to no avail. Much to my surprise it came back online. I was able to drive to town and pick up another drive and I am transferring all my data to it now. As soon as I have the $$$ I am going to buy a second drive and mirror the first. 386 gbs of data saved. :nannah: Fate

Good save and sage advice!
Freezing a hard drive can also help boot up an unresponsive disk, I’ve read about it.

I use a ClickFree 1TB external usb backup drive. Since I have my laptop networked over wifi to my desktop, it backs up both computers and I only have to connect it to one. Only have to make one connection and it saves time. The one I have backs up my data only, but they also make one that will backup the entire operating system as well. Think I paid about 125 dollars for it in 2011; they may even by cheaper now. I just replaced a 3 year old laptop and got a faster processor and more hard drive space for a hundred dollars less than I paid for the original.

I only use my computer for e-mail,
There is nothing on it I would feel bad about losing
which makes it that much easier to smash it when it pisses me off
