Bitcoin cold storage is universally recognized as the most secure way to store your bitcoin. In a nutshell, cold storage usually means keeping the private keys of your bitcoin addresses on an offline computer. This method of cold storage absolutely protects your bitcoin from loss, theft or seizure. Both the Armory and Electrum bitcoin wallets provide a cold storage option but the learning curve can be daunting for someone new to bitcoin and also requires two computers to use.

Enter Verso Card, a credit card sized vault for your bitcoins providing cold storage on the go you carry with you. One side of the card is the public side which contains the bitcoin address of the card encoded as a QR code. The reverse, private side of the card contains your private key encrypted with your password using military strength AES-256 encryption. Only you know the password which is encoded into the card when you buy it.

In order to manage your bitcoins in cold storage you also need the companion Verso Wallet app available on iOS and Android. Once installed on your smartphone you simply scan the private side of your Verso Card to access the management features of your card. You can directly use the public side of your card to receive bitcoin. To make a payment or send bitcoin you enter the destination bitcoin address in the wallet or scan a QR code then enter your password to finalize the transaction.

To protect your Verso Card against loss all you need to do is photocopy the private side of your card and store the copy in a safe place. Should you lose your card all you need to recover your bitcoin is the photocopy of the private side and your password. Remember if you lose or forget your password you will not be able to recover your bitcoin!

Hacking your cold storage Verso card is virtually impossible, because a hacker would have to know your password and also possess your Verso Card. Right now you can buy a Verso Silver card directly from the company in Switzerland, and the Verso Gold card will be released in the near future. The Verso Gold card will have additional security features to prevent brute force attacks and a digital copy is kept at the company so you can easily recover in case you lose the card.

At present you will only have one receiving address using a Verso Card but the developer has stated that the design of the card allows for BIP32 determinism and they are working on releasing this feature in order to improve anonymity. They are also working on a system to allow users to create the public/private key(s) offline for security.

Interested? You can buy a Verso Silver Card direct from Verso Cards for $16.99 (or 30.34 mBTC) including shipping.
