Bitmessage Email Gateway is a completely free email service hosted on an encrypted server in Switzerland. It is run by one of the moderators at the Bitmessage Forum as a service to the community.

As long as you can live with the somewhat long email address, registering a free account gives you two webmail interfaces to choose from and you can send/receive up to 500 emails a day. You can send emails to anyone with an email address, and also to bitmessage users. Bitmessage users can send messages right to your inbox. You can also use your Outlook or Thunderbird to connect.

Using the localhost access option you can connnect anonymously to the server without using Tor or a VPN, giving you anonymous email cheap and easy right from your browser.

Take a look, if you miss Tormail you might like.

Some further thoughts. According to the dude who developed @bitmessage.ch it is safe to leave your messages on the server as they are encrypted and not even he can read them. Makes it a bitch for him to debug since he can’t read mail.

As long as you use the localhost connection option I explained in my review your ip will not be logged or embedded in messages you send. Only thing that will be logged is ‘127.0.0.1’. You don’t need to use tor or a vpn unless you like. In fact he tells me the option to connect by tor will be dropped sometime in the future as it is not really needed.

Only problem he mentioned is if you send email out to another server. Because of the way email works if you send email from your @bitmessage.ch account to say gmail it will travel unencrypted and could be sniffed. No way to avoid he says, so be careful what you say if you send email outside of @bitmessage.ch. As long as both parties have a @bitmessage.ch account, or one is using bitmessage and the other @bitmessage.ch no worries.

Until I really started using it I thought the email gateway was a gimmick. Why not just use bitmessage instead? Truth is Bitmessage Email Gateway is way useful.
