DESOTO COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI (localmemphis.com)–A Desoto County woman says she’s knows first-hand about the dangers associated with fake pot known as "spice".

The drug is becoming an epidemic in Mississippi. Health experts say there are nearly three deaths and 300 reports of ER visits from spice-related overdoses..

Local 24 spoke with a Desoto County woman who used the illegal drug once and had a serious reaction.

She explained, "It was a really bad high that lasted like…probably about an hour and a half to two hours. It would leave and then it would come back…my body felt paralyzed. I couldn’t talk. I just had this weird feeling."

She tried spice a couple of years ago, and after two hits, she knew she made a terrible mistake.

"I felt like I was gonna die because I couldn’t move. I couldn’t talk."

The woman did not go to the hospital. The affects finally wore off. She says although it was her first and last time to smoke spice, her husband has been buying and using it for three years.

Her husband has had several bad reactions, but it hasn’t stopped him from using. She explained it caused "increased heart rate. It scared…scared him. But it still didn’t stop."

Spice is a mixture of unsafe plant products and chemicals intended to mimic marijuana. But it’s unpredictable, dangerous, and in some cases deadly.

The woman told Local 24, “It’s very scary because you don’t know what’s gonna happen. You don’t know if that…that next time is gonna be your last time."

Health department officials believe more and more people are using spice because it doesn’t show up on a drug test.

The FDA has banned many of the chemicals used to make spice, but new versions are popping up constantly making tracking down drug manufacturers and distributors difficult for authorities.

Watch out, Planet! The next time could be your last time!!! :rollingonasslaughing:

To be fair, who knows what the crap these folks are consuming? I would assume that many of these folks are buying from the local bathtub blender. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don’t. All of this is powerful stuff, after all. That being said, what they reported here sounds like the ranting of someone who had absolutely no clue what they were getting into, overdid it, and it scared the crap out of them. It happens. But, so far her justification for screaming ‘fire!’ is that hubby had an increased heart rate, and it scared him!!! Sounds like the next step after that is death, fo sho! :snoop:

Stay safe out there, Planet!
