The Coinbase app has not been affected by the vulnerability in the Android OS: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2046440/bitcoin-wallets-on-android-at-risk-of-theft-developers-say.html
Also, the Bitcoin Wallet for Android and Blackberry OS has already patched the problem: https://code.google.com/p/bitcoin-wallet/source/detail?r=04d2044880d88107ee4a939a516fb4be4cedeaf9&name=bitcoinj-0.10#
Smartphones as currently evolved have many security holes. If you are concerned don’t use an Android bitcoin wallet at all, use a wallet on your laptop.
Unfortunately using it on my android is the only option atm. It just doesnt look good with all the theft a while back and the feds investigating, it just seems like a good way for not only customers but vendors to be robbed. What happens if I were to buy a product and then some hacker cleans out the vendor (of whatever bitcoin product) for thier bitcoins, whats the chance of being served? Slim to none. And furthermore could a hacked vendor compramise your wallet?

If you are limited to using an Android phone to manage bitcoin, you are safe using the Coinbase app because your private keys are not stored on the phone. I have always recommended anyone new to bitcoin start with Coinbase. Regardless of how you pay a vendor, some might steal from you, so use a trusted vendor. Only someone with access to your private keys can compromise your wallet. Should a vendor’s wallet be hacked it is his problem, not yours, and it will not affect you at all.
Here is a link to a security advisory issued yesterday by bitcoin.org, it confirms that the Coinbase app for Android wss not affected: http://bitcoin.org/en/alert/2013-08-11-android

It feels good to be running from the devil
Another breath and I'm up another level
