While trying to upload an avatar, I get the following msg: The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.
Only info I can find from Simple Machines is this:
"Use ftp and CHMOD the folder to 755 or 777
For further info you can see this doc.
How do I chmod? / what is chmod?
And in case you need this one
How do I use FTP? / What is FTP?
Should point you in the right direction."
Of course this solution is not accessible to me, but what is? Thanks for any assistance you may supply.

That means that permissions are set incorrectly for the forum on the folder that pics upload to. It’s something the admin has to fix.

Easiest way to get around this is to upload your photo to a sharing site (or find it in Google Images) and use the URL.
Yep, hosting it at a free image site works great. Two of the best free image hosting sites out there are http://www.imgur.com and http://www.min.us . They’re both very reliable but I love Imgur the most. You can just upload pics or you can sign up with a username and have your own albums and stuff (Can set them to private or public).
