Yeah i hear you on the data, i use my phone as a modem for my computer for free internet, and with walmarts straighttalk service, i get unlimited talk, text, and data for 45$. Cant really beat that, you can even transfer alot of phones over to straighttalk.

Which network does TextNow mobile phone service use?
Everything goes over the internet (for both texts and calls). It uses your WiFi connection when it is available. When there is no WiFi connection, it uses Sprint’s nationwide 3G and 4G network.
Is there a contract associated with the plan?
All plans have no contract and you may cancel your plan whenever you like without any penalty and additional charges.
Do I need to get the monthly plan? Can I just buy the device?
All devices require the monthly plan for it to work.
Does my data get used when I’m on WiFi?
When you are on WiFi, data does not get used at all.
Will I be charged overage fees when I go over my data limit?
You will never be charged overage fees. You will be prompted with an option to upgrade to the next plan before you hit your limit. Should you choose not to upgrade, your data service will be suspended until the next billing cycle. When data service is suspended, you still can use your device where WiFi is available.
What is your return policy?
You may return the device for your money back within 30 days. The device must be returned with original packaging and accessories.
Is there a warranty?
All devices comes with a 1 year warranty. Should something go wrong with your device, we will send you a replacement free of charge. Physical and water damage is not covered by the warranty.
Does TextNow work internationally?
TextNow will work internationally when connected to a WiFi network. However, 3G and 4G data will not be available when you travel internationally.
Does texting and calling use my data?
When you are on WiFi, texting and calling does not use your data. When you’re on 3G and 4G, calling and texting does not use much data at all. You can send thousands of texts with 1mb of data and 1 minute of calling will use approximately 0.3mb of data.
Can I use my own device with your plans?
If you already own a Sprint Android phone that is off contract, you can use it with our plans. We currently can’t activate phones from other phone companies because they aren’t compatible with our network. To activate your Sprint Android phone, email your phone’s serial number to orders@textnow.com (Go to Settings > About Phone > Status > MEID > Hex to find the serial number) and we can help you get it activated.
How do I pay my bill once I sign up?
When you sign up, auto-billing is setup with the credit/debit card you used. This means your credit/debit card will be billed every month automatically until you cancel your plan. Should you need to change your billing information or cancel your plan, you can call us at 1-888-250-5255.
Can I port in my own phone number?
We are able to port in most phone numbers into TextNow after you purchase a plan from us. You will be assigned a temporary number when you sign up until your phone number is ported in. To find out if your number can be ported and to start the process, email us (orders@textnow.com) the phone number you would like to port.
Can I still text and call when I use up my data?
When you use up all of your data, you can still text and call over WiFi but not over 3G and 4G. You can upgrade to a higher plan at anytime should you get close to your data limit by calling us at 1-888-250-5255.

Sprint where I am at in NJ is almost worthless. Would only be good if I lived closer to the shore or in a city. All we have is Verizon and AT&T. I’ll probably be looking into other plans soon though. It just isn’t worth spending $100 a month for me. I too like most others used it more for the data then the talk & text.
