They were using a piece of string with a big knot as a handle. I measured things last night and went early this morning and installed their new handle I made.
I took a 2x4x13, rounded the corners and cut a big mitten hole, drilled 2 pilot holes 10" on center which matches the door handle bolt holes. Then I took 2 long Sheetrock screws with 1/4" washers and fastened it to the door.

It feels good for the first time in a long time now
