I was offered an interview for a good paying job 2 weeks ago. I did everything right, had all the credentials, and got compliments from the people that interviewed me. I was told by one of the interviewers that I would be hearing from them as I was leaving.
The recruiter called me several times after the interview with all positive vibes. He said they were very impressed with my resume and my professionalism. He called me two more times to say it looked good. He called yesterday morning to say he was having lunch with the CIO and he would get back to me right afterwards.
Instead he left me hanging all day and night. He called today and chose voice mail instead of letting my phone ring so he could leave me a message telling me they went in another direction.
I was told they were interviewing for a Field Tech / Desktop support. The message I was left said they went in another direction and hired a Senior Network Engineer.
I played phone tag for a bit then he called me back and says he thinks someone came in with Engineering qualifications and they hired him.
This is the second time someone in Engineering beat me out for a Desktop support job.
These are desperate times when 90k guys are going for 50k jobs. I am still in shock. Needed to vent. I don’t want to tell my daughter when she comes home from school that I failed again.
That job has nothing to do with what I thought I was interviewing for. The ad was in Craig’s List. That should have been my first clue. I am thinking the job was never the one I thought it was and this fucker played me for some reason.
I needed the get this off my chest. I have never been out of work and no health insurance to boot.
I am a single parent and times are tough enough here as it is.

Dealing with recruiters is a dicey business. I get hits all the time, and I wonder if these idiots are even reading my resume. I think they are simply using a shotgun approach based on a keyword or two, and they’re just trying to win the gigs on strength in numbers. I would also recommend staying away from the ones that can barely speak English. They typically have their head up their ass, and they will low ball you as much as possible. I don’t even respond to them anymore.
Sorry that it went the way it did but keep you head up and things will eventually work out. I do believe things happen for a reason. Maybe the right position is just around the corner and one that is much better than the one you lost out on. I will keep you in my prayers! If there is ever anything I can do…just say it.

I just finished a 3 1/2 month gig for about 20% below scale so I know what taking a lower paying job is like.

The lower unemployment # just means less people are ‘getting’ it. It doesn’t count the people who have been denied or the people who have given up/not applied. It’s a terrible number to judge by. 😀

Yeah, those reports are full of it. I seem to recall a recent article describing how they cooked the books before the last election – remember how they magically got below 8% just in time? Of course, the also don’t like to call out the fact that Americans are simply leaving the workforce in record numbers. They claim to have created 5 million jobs when 9 million more are done and gone since O stepped in – LOL! Gov fuzzy math at its finest.

I’m sure you will find a good job soon, the people you interviewed with sound like they jerked you around big time, gave you the run around. That sucks. Sounds like you deserve better employers anyway. Hope you land something good soon.

I’m like you where I keep a lot of personal stuff off the threads, but I do have something that may make you feel a little better anyways.
I applied for a good (6) months before I got "a" job. This wasn’t a job I wanted, but was employment, somewhat in my field.
I took it, and worked it for going on ( 8 ) months or so, until I was laid off. This whole time I was still applying for jobs.

I wasn’t going around to fast food places to get a job, which could have saved me a lot of down time ($), but then again may have taken time away from me where I was busting my ass trying to get interviews. Here is the kicker though, since you mentioned CraigsList ads – that is exactly where I found my current position.
My uncled preached that I search CL for jobs, and I always laughed, and never did it.. Always CareerBuilder, jobs.com, indeed, etc.. ALL OF THEM.
The month I started looking on CL, I fortunately found quite a few offerings on there, applied to one (which I thought was way out of my league) and BAM.
Got an interview! All of the other interviews from CB, indeed, etc, they were always a bust! I’d get there to the interview, and they would almost be shocked when I would walk in. Must’ve been my too-hot-to-trot mentality each time.. "Little green aren’t ya!" Almost every time -__- You obviously like my resume, though, ASS. Sheesh.
Then someone took that shot with me! WoopWoop.
Catch-22: Almost all jobs requests that you have experience. Well to get experience, one needs a job, doing exactly that! :hammertime:

PS – this was at the peak of the unemployment rate.. From my perspective at the moment, things are on the upturn. Moving quickly too!
