I saw this recipe online today; questions to follow.

"Kratom shot recipe.
Before making the shot, you must first get your ingredients. Coconut milk is easy enough to find- go down the dairy aisle at any grocery store! The powder and amino acid can be bought online, but if you’re in an area without access to these ingredients, it’s best to purchase them at a local health food store.

To make the shot:

Add 1 part coconut milk into a small bowl or cup
Add 1 part honey (1 teaspoon)
Add 1 part cinnamon powder (1 teaspoon)
Add 1 part ginger powder (1 teaspoon)
Add 1 part turmeric powder (1 teaspoon). It will give you 4 tablespoons of a complete recipe for kratom shots gold living up to their hype."

What stands out to me in this recipe is the lack of Kratom lol. I guess it is assumed that you know it must be added, but how much? Maybe it's just "1 part (1 teaspoon)" Maybe adding more than 1 part would cause the shot to be excessively thick. My regular dose for my toss 'n wash is four teaspoons. In that case I would quadruple the recipe I suppose.

Kratom users: Have you tried making Kratom shots?
If yes, how is the taste?
Does turmeric powder potentiate kratom in any way? I've heard it is overwhelmingly earthy and bitter.
Some sites mention that when making kratom tea, you are losing much of the kratom in the wet powder that gets tossed in the bin.
Pros, cons, opinions?

(WAFB) - Ascension Parish will become the first parish in Louisiana to ban the sale of the controversial herbal supplement kratom.

The Ascension Parish Council unanimously voted to prohibit the sale of kratom during their meeting on Aug. 18.

Councilman Michael Mason says the original proposal included restrictions on possessions and use, but they decided to only focus on sales.

“Not a single person in Ascension Parish spoke in favor of Kratom,” Mason said.

According to the Department of Justice & Drug Enforcement Administration, kratom is an herbal substance that can be taken as a pill, powder or brewed as a tea.

Supporters of the product say its commonly used to treat pain or serve as an alternative to using opioids. However, opponents argue that its highly addictive and dangerous.

Mac Haddow from the American Kratom Association disputed that narrative.

“Kratom does not have the addiction liability, nor does it pose a health risk to the American people. There are more than 15 million Kratom consumers in America today, and when safely consumed, the non-adulterated product is a great alternative to people managing their health and well-being,” Haddow said.

Mason also chimed in.

“I noticed that people who were pro-kratom would show up to all the meetings and say the same thing. ‘In its purest form, it does a lot of great good’. Which, I’m sure it does. We’re not arguing that fact, but what we’re saying we have in Ascension Parish is obviously not its purest form,” Mason said.

Mason says the ordinance goes into effect on Aug. 28. Under the new rule, anyone that’s caught selling kratom could lose their business license. Also, repeat offenders could face a fine or possibly face jail time.

Mason says he supports a ban until the state or federal government decides to regulate it.

“We did put in that caveat that if further research becomes available and some regulation happens with Kratom that we can get the pure form and make sure that it’s not tainted with formaldehyde which are some of the things that were coming through and all this other stuff, then we would be glad to revisit this, but this is just something to protect our people right now,” Mason said. Until then, Haddow says the fight is not over.

“We’re hopefully going to get them to reconsider their ordinance so they can control the adulterated kratom products because we know the health benefits of natural Kratom, unadulterated is really beneficial to the population,” Haddow said. “They say that Ascension Parish is the thought leader of all policies that other parishes and that the state of Louisiana follows. If they truly believe that then they should’ve listened to the non-Ascension Parish residents that came and spoke.”

>:( >:( I've searched and can find no instances of kratom being adulterated with formaldehyde; is there something I should know?

https://urbanasian.com/lifestyle/2022/08/the-push-behind-kratom-legislation/

Kratom has become an increasingly popular alternative medicine, but the DEA has been a persistent obstacle. While authorities put Denver’s ban on Kratom on hold due to public pressure, the American Kratom Association is battling back in the form of political persuasion. The AKA has successfully persuaded the DEA to reschedule Kratom, and Florida is now considering a similar ban.

Denver’s kratom ban on hold

The Department of Public Health and Environment has temporarily decided to put Denver’s kratom ban on hold. The state’s drug control agency had banned the sale of Kratom for public consumption but has now taken the ban off hold, pending the outcome of a bill. Denver first implemented the ban in 2017.

But it hasn’t all been good news for kratom lovers. Several Colorado cities have prohibited using Kratom, including Castle Rock, Monument, and Denver. The American Kratom Association has done an excellent job advocating for the plant, and it hopes the state will overturn the ban soon. And as of now, there are a few stumbling blocks for those who want to use Kratom in Denver.

American Kratom Association’s political persuasion

The American Kratom Association has long been concerned with encroaching federal laws to protect the health and safety of consumers, and the DEA is no different. The DEA’s controversial scheduling decisions have put the substance on a high-risk list, and it could result in steep punishments for those who buy, use, or possess it. The DEA has also threatened to ban any modified form of the drug, and states such as Oregon and Washington have already decriminalized small amounts. But the AKA and other advocates are not giving up hope. They’re stepping up their fight and getting donations to fight the DEA’s ban.

This recent ban is an extreme example of how the DEA wants to impose its agenda on a product never deemed a threat to society. The DEA can temporarily schedule substances, and their findings must be scientifically sound to justify immediate regulatory action. In the case of Kratom, this means the FDA was relying on flawed and inaccurate research.

DEA’s decision to reschedule Kratom

The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) put a hold on its decision to reschedule Kratom this week. The agency decided on a power that is rarely used, but the agency did not provide the public with enough notice. The DEA decided after 51 members of Congress sent a letter to the agency questioning the DEA’s actions. The DEA has yet to release a statement explaining its decision and has said it will continue to solicit public input before making a final decision.

The FDA’s decision to reschedule Kratom is controversial in several ways. The agency did not disclose the letter recommending its scheduling, which led to a misunderstanding among policymakers, the media, and kratom consumers. Because of this, six states and local governments have banned kratom sales. These bans have been mainly based on DEA claims.

Florida’s ban on Kratom

The ban on Kratom in Florida is likely dead after the Senate Appropriations Committee fails to hold a hearing. A similar bill, filed by Pensacola Republican Rep. Alex Andrade, did not get a hearing either. Neither of the accounts had unanimous support, and a woman’s interruption caused the hearing to end prematurely. Representative Kristin Jacobs, a conservative, is opposed to the drug.

A recent ad hoc task force lobbied for the state to ban Kratom. However, the St. Johns County Commissioners discussed the ban. At this meeting, kratom users explained the herb’s health benefits, and the commissioners decided not to ban it. As a result, Kratom remains legal in St. Johns County.

One reason that people are eager to research kratom is because even though it can act similarly to opioids, it doesn’t appear to cause dangerous respiratory depression, which is the reason behind many opioid overdose deaths.

While he recognized that some people may be attracted to the product for recreational use, he said that the “legitimate users of this will fight to their death to keep it legal because it’s been revolutionary for them.”

To that end, advocates in the U.S. have been putting up a fight to ensure that regulators don’t designate kratom as a controlled substance. And so far, they’ve been successful.

On the international level, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) decided last year not to recommend that kratom be globally prohibited in a victory for activists.

While the decision was based on a scientific review of the risk of dependence, abuse potential and therapeutic applications of kratom, advocates touted the fact that about 80,000 people submitted comments to the panel, sharing their perspectives and experiences with the plant-derived substance.

As it stands, kratom is not scheduled under the federal Controlled Substances Act or under international drug treaties to which the U.S. is a party. FDA has considered putting restrictions on the substance, but it’s has faced resistance and has been unable to do so at this point.

Some advocates suspected that, since the agency hasn’t imposed a ban on kratom domestically, it would use the WHO convention as an opportunity to get prohibition enacted internationally, a move that the country would be compelled to comply with.

A bipartisan and bicameral duo of congressional lawmakers sent a letter to the secretary of the U.S. Department Health and Human Services and the country’s UN ambassador last year, imploring the officials to resist efforts to impose an international ban on kratom.

As federal agencies have gone back and forth about the merits of scheduling kratom over recent years, there’s been “no conclusive evidence that would warrant the United States voting in favor of an international control of this substance,” the lawmakers said.

Separately, the House Appropriations Committee approved a report to spending legislation last year that says federal health agencies have “contributed to the continued understanding of the health impacts of kratom, including its constituent compounds, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.”

“The Committee is aware of the potential promising results of kratom for acute and chronic pain patients who seek safer alternatives to sometimes dangerously addictive and potentially deadly prescription opioids and of research investigating the use of kratom’s constituent compounds for opioid use disorder,” it said.

The panel also directed the Health and Human Services secretary to continue to refrain from recommending that kratom be controlled in Schedule I.

In 2020, the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) asked the public to help identify research that specifically looks at the risks and benefits of cannabinoids and kratom.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2020 separately received more than one thousand comments concerning kratom as part of another public solicitation.

McCurdy, for his part, said in last week’s presentation hosted by NIH”s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health that he hoped to lead a follow-up event in the next couple of years because he’s “aware of and participating in a few other trials that are going on in Canada, as well as one funded by the that will be started sometime this year.”

Those initiatives are focusing on “human safety and pharmacokinetics,” he said.
