I’m a huge animation nut, so of course I love cartoons!  Here’s my top 10.
edit:  Fucking USELESS without videos people… take on those awesome cartoon opening credits, because let’s face it… some of them are stuck in your head anyways.  Also, it helps nutters like me who just HAVE to check out anything I’m not familiar with anyways.

Anything by Seth Macfarlane… Family Guy, American Dad, etc.

Tron Uprising
Seriously, just look at this video showcasing the art and style this fucking thing exudes.  A real story that interlinks with the films, and has Bruce Boxleitner (Tron from the films) doing the voice of Tron?  And it’s violent and awesome and actually a much better story than Legacy?  Just… seriously even if you have no fucking CLU what this is just watch this video.  Even if you think you know, do it.  Disney pulled this and Motorcity right after Sandy Hook, most likely because they’re more aimed at an adult audience than their comfort zone.  Violent, awesome, and insanely well animated.

Motor City

This show is simply ahead of it’s time… it looks like Tank Girl from the old Deadline mags, (before DC degenerated the property with a shit movie (which is great cheesy fun) and an even shittier watered down comics for a US audience) and Gorillaz had a bastard lovechild.  It’s just so fucking LUSH and awesome for something from Disney.  That is of course why it had to die.

Robotech

Yeah, technically it’s anime… but Robotech, the bastard lovechild of Carl Macek trying to turn 3 unrelated anime into a coherent story, transcends it’s base parts into something epic.  The first multi-generational war cartoon that wasn’t afraid to kill off main characters, blow up Earth, or weigh the idea of committing genocide in order to win.  I will buy this series in any format it is released, and even when it’s rerelased with a new transfer or extras.  Cartoon crack.

That said, there are two RARE finds out there that are related but not in wide release.  Clash of the Bionoids is the shit Blockbuster video dub version of Robotech.  Funny because it uses the insanely well done Macross: Do You Remember Love movie as it’s base.  It’s a summarized version of the original Macross generation, which was then followed by Super Dimension Century Southern Cross, and then MOSPAEDA (aka New Generation) on the original show.  Is it good?  Yeah… but it’s very 80’s voice work slapped onto a masterpiece… lol.

Then there’s the failed Robotech The Movie, which was Macek’s attempt to tie yet another unrelated series onto his Protoculture mythos, but it opened in one damn theater in Texas before they pulled the plug on the entire project.  It’s really Megazone 23… but it’s got the same mechanical designer as Macross, and a transforming motor bike.  Macek tied that together with existing Robotech footage to make a hybrid that’s pretty good actually.  Shame it never got a wide release.

Transformers (all of ’em)

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
What can I say about this?  It’s fucking brilliant.  The guy who wrote Babylon 5 did the writing for this, so it’s kind of a mashup of Scifi and fantasy but written like a scifi novel.

Oban Star Racers
This one started off as an animated short called Molly Star Racer, which turned into the most downloaded video of it’s day… and then into a TV series.  There’s a full story here, told over the coarse of two seasons.  No episodic bullshit, no padding, just a great story told well.  A French – Japanese collaboration that has it’s own unique art style and characters.  Well done and utterly unique.

Here’s the original video too.

Robotix
Yet another scifi series with a distinct beginning middle and end… yes, I like it when series actually tell a story.  Transformers fans will hear a lot of familiar voice actors.  ^_^

South Park

Shit… I totally blanked on Venture Brothers… lol.  How could I forget such awesome?  It’s easy when Adult Swim puts it in the worst time slot and waits 2 fucking years between seasons.  ;p
