A four-member CDC team, including a toxicologist and an epidemiologist, are expected to arrive in Denver on Monday to assist in the investigation.

Colorado public health officials say they’re talking with their counterparts in Georgia, which has also had a jump in hospitalizations related to synthetic marijuana use.

As of last Thursday, there have been 25 reported cases in the Brunswick, Ga., area and one case in Athens, Ga., said the Georgia Department of Public Health.

“DPH has become aware of a dangerous, potentially lethal substance surfacing in convenience stores and smoke shops. DPH has issued an emergency communication to about 40,000 licensed physicians and physician’s assistants in Georgia. When ingested or inhaled this neurotoxin can render a person motionless and/or unconscious and cause severe cardiac problems. In the last 24 hours, at least eight patients in southeast Georgia have been hospitalized. Some patients have been admitted to intensive care and are on life support,” DPH said Friday.

The substance is sold under the names “Crazy Clown” or “Herbal Madness Incense,” among others. It is marketed as “herbal incense,” bath salts, or “roll-your-own” tobacco, said DPH.

“While these substances have been around for years, there are new indications the chemicals or ingredients have been altered to be far more dangerous or deadly. The substance is most commonly smoked or burned in a small bowl and inhaled,” DPH representatives said.

State officials said first responders have reported unusual strength, agitation and combativeness in some persons. Some users have been rendered motionless, have abnormal or absent reflexes and some experience unconsciousness. Symptoms may present almost immediately after ingestion or inhalation or may be delayed as more of the product is ingested or inhaled. Mild to moderate intoxication can result in alterations in mood and perception, red eyes, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, weakness, cardiac abnormalities, hypertension, disorientation and an increase in pulse rate, similar to marijuana.

DPH is working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency to collect these products and remove them from store shelves.

Samples of the product are currently being tested to identify the ingredients. Until the composition of the product is known, physicians are only able to treat symptoms.

Anyone who has used the substance should seek immediate medical attention or call the Georgia Poison Center at 800-222-1222."

Gimme a break with this bullshit. Now its called Crazy Clown or possibly a bath salt? And you actually believe this so-called "reporting" and "investigation"? I’ve read THOUSANDS of articles and about the dangers of blends, yet not one of them bothers to release the ACTUAL name of the blends that make people sick, they just take a guess or name the most popular brands from last year. And they never seem to actually lab test the products that were making people sick.

Unfortunately this is no joke or BS, a gas station blend sold under the name ‘Crazy Clown’ has sickened many in Georgia, Colorado and now Nebraska. Have to wait for the CDC report later this week or early next week for the cause. It is unknown right now whether it is a new chemical, an opiate like AH-7921 or contaminant. Nothing I have ever heard of comes even close.

the amount of AH-7921 it takes for a negative reaction is pretty huge in my experiences…I am not sure you could dose a base herb with enough to hurt some one..it would have to be pure chem..imo.

I have tried all the newest chems now…..in excessive amounts. seriously. Insane amounts…no ill effects other than a few hella hangovers..is it possible that peeps are using non China synth drugs?..like real drugs?…

The thing that really blows my mind about this story is this is coming out of a State where weed is LEGAL.  I knew it would not be long for another attack on blends and this will be great fuel for the fire, especially now that the CDC is involved in so many cases.  >:(

It’s got to be ppl that still get tested for whatever reason. That would buy this in CO.  Especially from shady sites, it’s been out of stores long enough in CO you’d hope they’d have found better vendors by now. Assuming they’re shady, just be cuz I haven’t heard of em don’t mean jack…

I just thank god I had sites to go to, get reviews etc, commonly used vendors, way to go Spiced and the ilk. Not that there’s anything in Spiced’s league of course, got to throw that in there haha.

this is sickening, id like to see all blends wiped from the scene and marijuana advocated more because of this, NOTHING compares to good old NATURAL MJ
